Best Los Angeles Takeout Food
As the #1 customer of Doordash and Postmates!
To compliment my grocery shopping for one article, I decided to do a guide for when it is a takeout week. To this day, I am pretty certain that the total messages I have from Doordash and Postmates delivery drivers beats the amount of messages I have from anyone else (shoutout, you make my world go round!). You can find me in my home with my delicious takeout! These are the restaurants I absolutely love to order from, and are on rotation whenever I feel like takeout. They have also been tested for enduring travel time (located on the westside). Enjoy! XO
There is no takeout presentation more iconic than Sugarfish’s sushi bento boxes. If I am doing takeout, I prefer Sugarfish over Kazunori as the bento boxes come generously portioned with sushi, sashimi, cut rolls, and edamame. I normally order the “Trust Me”. It travels well, and is perfect for a cozy stay at home date night or treat yourself night!
Dan Modern Chinese (Postmates & Doordash)
I discovered Dan Modern Chinese after being repeatedly disappointed by the Century City location of Din Tai Fung. Dan Modern Chinese is such delicious Chinese food, with meaty soup dumplings and flavorful noodles. I love to order their Short Rib Dan Mein Noodles, Sauteed String Beans with Garlic, and Pork & Dungeness Crab Xiao Long Bao. Orders always arrive at perfect hot temperatures, and you can always count on delicious next day leftovers too!
The main reason to order Erewhon from Postmates rather than Instacart is that you can get items from the hot bar, burrito menu, and tonic bar. I definitely love the convenience of Postmates delivery rather than waiting twenty minutes or so in person. I especially love to order their Bacon and Egg Burrito, Wild Caught Salmon Burrito, Fish Combo Plate with wild salmon + buffalo cauliflower + rice balls, and Matchacado smoothie. Make sure to remind your delivery driver about the salsas for your burritos!
Carla Cafe blew up during the beginning of the pandemic, and still holds the title of best sandwich (and yes, I stand by ranking it above Bay Cities). The Tuna Chop sandwich will change your life forever. They also offer salad and gluten-free versions. These are great for picnics, or a fabulous treat yourself lunch!
California Chicken Cafe (Postmates & Doordash)
I don’t know what kind of magic California Chicken Cafe puts in their wraps and salads as the ingredients are rather simple, but they are in fact the most delicious salads. All of the ingredients are so fresh, and the delivery is always quick. It is definitely my favorite option when opting for a healthy choice. I especially love their Cafe Caesar Salad and Combo Wrap.
I think pasta has been the biggest hit or miss with travel time and quality upon arrival. I did not have much luck from Eataly, Forma, and Ospi after trying a few times (though they are absolutely delicious in person!). Uovo containers are well insulated, and is normally my go-to when ordering pasta takeout. Unfortunately, you cannot order the Cacio E Pepe (I think for a reason) but I love to order their Amatriciana pasta!
JOE & THE JUICE (Postmates & Doordash)
I remember when I lived in Seattle and Joe & The Juice opened down the street in an Amazon building and I was absolutely ecstatic that I finally had a taste of LA. This is definitely where I developed my addiction, and was one of my main orders when the pandemic started. My love still remains, and my absolute favorites are the Tunacado sandwich, Joe’s Green Mile smoothie, Iced Latte, Green Tonic juice, and Ginger Shot.
Bangkok West Thai (Postmates & Doordash)
Bangkok West Thai definitely hits the spot whenever I am in the mood for Thai food! It is the best Thai I have tried in Los Angeles. I absolutely love their Chef’s Special Pad Thai and Pa-Nang Curry with Soft Tofu and side of Jasmine Rice. It’s perfect for a cozy night in!
Cafe Gratitude (Postmates Only)
Sometimes I am in the mood for something indulgent, but also slightly healthy. My happy medium is always I AM ORIGINAL from Cafe Gratitude. It is a vegan mushroom burrito that is absolutely delicious, and I always sub with a side of french fries. Somehow, the fries always travel really well! This is a great spot for vegans!
Curry House ICHIBANYA (Postmates & Doordash)
I grew up with Japanese curry as my comfort food, so was very pleasantly surprised when I first ordered from Curry House Ichibanya. I love to order their Pork Cutlet and Chicken Cutlet curry. The best part is that you can choose to add on several toppings and pick the spiciness level you want, from 1-10! This could be a fun, adventurous takeout meal if you have never tried Japanese curry before!
Prima Baja Cantina & Tacos (Postmates & Doordash)
I am sure there is more authentic on the market, but Prima Baja has become my comfort taco takeout. I visited in person on Montana Ave. and it is so cute, and also love that their takeout travels well. My favorite to order is their Carne Asada Taco plate, which comes with rice, beans, 3 tacos, and a bag of chips with salsa.
Sea Salt Poke (Postmates & Doordash)
I was spoiled in Seattle with some of the best poke, and upon moving back to Los Angeles was on a quest to find the best poke. Unfortunately, I tried several and a lot of them were not great at all. The closest I could find was Sea Salt Poke, which is also quick to pick up from in person. The bowls are less chipotle style and more focused on the quality of fish, rice, and quality toppings. My favorite is their Truffle Yuzu Salmon Poke with Furikake Rice!
Pizzana (Postmates & Doordash)
I normally do not crave a whole pizza to eat alone, but if I am hosting a group for a girls’ night I always order pizzas from Pizzana! They make a delicious Cacio E Pepe pizza, and also have vegan and gluten-free options which makes it easy for variance in dietary restrictions. They also have great caesar and chop salads!
Sushi Roku (Postmates & Doordash)
Surprisingly, it is hard to find family style sushi meals on delivery apps in Los Angeles. I have had great success with Sushi Roku’s Sushi Family Pack. It feeds 4, and comes with edamame, miso soup, and an assortment of both sushi and rolls. Also, the platter presentation is gorgeous. I love ordering this for Bachelorette watch nights!
The Bigg Chill (Postmates & Doordash)
I will say that it is better to get The Bigg Chill in person, but it does also travel pretty well. You will want to look on their website for their flavors of the day. You will write the flavors you want under ‘Preferences’ at the bottom. As a big chocolate girl, I love their Ghirardhelli Chocolate with Oreo Crumbs. They also have incredible vegan cookie dough. They wrap the lids in foil during delivery, so they stay pretty well insulated until arrival. You can also order a Large Frozen Yogurt Pie if you are in a pinch for a birthday cake for a froyo lover!
