The One Journal Everyone Needs

I never thought I would find a journal that covers all the bases!

I have been a journal collector for several years, and this past year was on an ongoing search to find one that fits all of my needs — rather than having to write in a few different ones each day. A few years ago, I would plan out my days to the minute, with toxic hyperproductivity journal prompts to remind myself on a daily basis that I was not doing enough.

I fell out of this routine when I started therapy and learned to be more flexible and self-compassionate. I finally had the realization that the goal of my days should not be checking off a million to-do’s and rating my performance on likert scales, but rather reflecting deeply on what I learned, cherished moments, and how my day-to-day is contributing to my larger goals in life.

Some of my favorite journals are simply blank pages, where I can scribble down random thoughts and moments of a given day or week. I also have journals that give very structured prompts, with compelling questions on where I am at mentally, physically, and spiritually. I never found one that combined my need for both, along with tracking my bucket list, goals in life, and longer-term reflections — until I found Press Pause, by Axel & Ash, Hanna Axelsson Sahlen, and Jessica Wells.

This journal really does it all, as it guides you through intention and goal setting, weekly prompts (different ones each week), blank pages between each week, monthly reflections, a yearly reflection, and bucket list. It is a great reminder to not only remember the big moments of each week, but also the small ones. As an added bonus, the journal has a cloth cover and beautiful minimalist design.

I highly recommend this journal for anyone and everyone, as I truly believe it does a unique job of both promoting mindfulness and self-kindness, along with a consistent and gentle push towards your larger goals in life. I cannot wait to reflect back on each page at the end of this year, and see how one journal was able to make such a difference in my outlook on life!
