Wine Review: 2020 Allegrini Valpolicella

Valpolicella, Veneto, Italy

I fell in love with this wine when I took my WSET Level 2 course. It is the perfect summer red for outdoor barbeques and picnics, so I thought it would only be fitting to post this on Summer Solstice. At only $17, I consider it a steal! Perfect for when you need to stock up on several bottles for a dinner party, or just as a daily drinking quality pick.

Taken from my course notes, it is a medium ruby color and medium intensity with notes of rasberries, red plums, black pepper, sweet spice, vanilla, and some floral aspects. It is medium in acidity, medium-bodied, and has medium alcohol with not a lot of tannins. This is perfect for chilling and pairing with umami foods and meats. Its quality would be considered ‘good’ (on the scale of poor, acceptable, good, very good, and outstanding).

89 Points - Aromas of red-skinned berries, spice and underbrush shape the nose. The easygoing palate shows ripe red cherry and white pepper alongside smooth tannins. Enjoy soon to catch the fruit richness.

91 Points - Pleasant nose with plummy and floral notes. Medium-bodied and silky smooth with well-integrated tannins and a flavorful finish.
