Wine Review: 2021 Hatzidakis Assyrtiko, Familia

Santorini, Greece

I had not tasted any wines from Greece during my wine certifications, so I was curious to see what this wine would taste like. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, and it is definitely a must try for my readers! It is made of 100% Assyrtiko grapes, and a beautiful lemon color. There is stone fruit, vegetal, citrus, creaminess, and minerality with a dryness on the palate and long, acidic finish. This is one to keep in stock with summer approaching!

Winemaker’s Notes: White Vinification type. Handpicked grapes were placed in a cold room overnight. Direct pressing of the grapes followed by fermentation under controlled temperature 17–18 ̊C with indigenous yeasts. The wine matured for 6 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Grapes are harvested at the beginning of August.

Bright yellow color with lemon and white flowers nose. Smooth and aerial on the palate with a gentle and refreshing acidity on the finish. Matches well with shellfish and fish plates in general, green salads, asparagus white sauce meats and cheeses from Cyclades complex. Better served at 12-14˚C.
